Keep It Local

Background

East Arnhem, located in the Northern Territory of Australia, is a remote and culturally rich region home to a mix of Indigenous communities and service towns, most notably Nhulunbuy.

Like many regional areas, local businesses face competitive pressure from online retail and outside spending, making it vital to encourage the community to keep their dollars circulating within the local economy.

The “Keep it Local” campaign was conceived as a community-driven initiative by the not-for-profit economic development agency Developing East Arnhem Land in collaboration with the Northern Territory Government, to shift spending habits and build a culture of local loyalty.

The Brief

The Keep it Local campaign team partnered with Stamp Me to design and operate a scalable digital loyalty campaign that could engage a broad cross-section of the East Arnhem community - from regular shoppers to sporadic spenders - while providing measurable outcomes for participating businesses.

The campaign needed to be simple enough for customers to participate with minimal friction, while also offering genuine incentive through prize-based rewards that would sustain engagement over the full six-month campaign period.

Key Objectives

  • Encourage residents and visitors to actively choose local businesses
  • Keep money circulating within the East Arnhem community
  • Strengthen the connection between the community and its local business operators
  • Build a sustainable habit of local spending, rather than a one-off promotional spike

How the

Keep It Local

 Loyalty Program Works

The campaign ran from 8 October 2025 to 7 April 2026 across 36 local businesses in East Arnhem, Northern Territory.

Earning Stamps:

Customers earned one stamp for every $10 or more spent at a participating business, simply by scanning a Stamp Code at the register. To maintain integrity, a location-specific time delay of nine hours was applied between collecting stamps at the same venue.

Stamp Rewards:

Every stamp collected by a customer automatically entered them into a fortnightly draw to win a $100 voucher valid at one of the participating businesses, while collecting five stamps unlocked an entry into the final Grand Prize draw valued at $1,000 in local vouchers.

Stamping Method

How Rewards are Redeemed

Stamp collection and prize entries were validated by Stamp Me, ensuring all claims were legitimate and traceable. The fortnightly draws were conducted by our in-house team every second Friday throughout the campaign period, providing regular touchpoints to re-engage members and sustain momentum.

To maximise community visibility and excitement, winners were announced publicly on the campaign's Facebook page. Fortnightly prize winners were also posted to the page following each draw, creating a regular social media cadence that kept the campaign top-of-mind and encouraged new sign-ups.

Winners were also contacted through Push Notifications, sent through the Stamp Me Merchant Console, ensuring winners were reached via various touch points.

The Grand Prize winner was selected and announced on 8 April 2026.
